Have that wide open door With lots of exciting things going on And have her hold that stay right so Throwing sticks she loves those Sometimes your dog hears the call of the Wild when you’re out here in the rockies And you want them to stay that’s a lot Easier said than done especially when You have the smells of the outdoors here And it being a new exciting environment Dogs are so curious by nature do you Want to help me train veronica i’ll tell You what i’m going to put you out here Come Heel Lie down Stay so here we’re getting some bonus Double dog training for multi-dog Households where you have one dog who’s Pretty trained but the other one is Still in training So here we have stay with distance i’m Walking away She seems to be really getting a point Here Not attempting to jump down Yes Good girl We’ll go ahead and acknowledge sweet Puppy over here too Every single time she’s in the trailer She’s on leash and she’s attached to me Or she’s like attached to the table or Something secure in the trailer so we

Always have a safety net at least we Always strive to have a safety net Humans are prone to mistakes and i don’t Want to have to rely on that either and So even in this lesson she still is Leashed we still make sure that she’s Definitely secured and not in a position To get away from us so here we have stay With duration now we’re going to stay With distance What we don’t have are major Distractions i mean one could argue the Outdoors is enough of a distraction Immediately there’s an unplanned Distraction right there a car is driving By here Yes she didn’t break stay though i’m Encouraged by that so this is a good Reminder if she was in a position to get Away from me this could turn tragic Quickly yesterday those cars that were Driving by had dogs chasing them so that Could make her more excited than it used To stay Yes Well done okay come i mean it should go Without saying but even in like a normal House or apartment or whatever you would Train this the same way the particular Challenge with this though is training Veronica to stay at an rv door where the Outside is ever changing well yeah Because if she’s like that door opens And sometimes it’s pretty good and

There’s grass and i like to sniff around But sometimes there’s a carnival and Sometimes there’s a moose and sometimes There’s awesome stuff that i just love So she’s consistently seeing this really Exciting stuff and how we react and how We guide her in those moments is going To make all of the difference if we Don’t address it if we’re not ahead of The game then bad habits get developed And quickly and then we have a dog who Learns to run away and not listen to us Because they can that’s how problem dogs Happen and so unlike a residential house For example just because she does well One day doesn’t mean that’s a great Predictor for how she’s going to behave The next day when we’re in a different Place and there’s been a massive massive Variable change known as her environment I make a big deal about that because Changing your dog’s environment is the Sure-fire way to confuse the heck out of Them and so you have to really take that Into account when you’re training Especially a new dog am i getting really Animated right now i’m trying to Emphasize how environmental management Is just about everything when you’re Training it all it is really abnormal For you to be animated in the videos Stay i want to practice using both the Word stay Good

And also my hand signal Yes that’s so she starts to learn what Both things mean independently stay is The kind of thing we teach in real life Contexts 10 seconds at a time it’s not Like you have three of these training Sessions and all of a sudden your dog is Going to be perfect they need to be Reminded about context in real life all The time i recommend for the first two Years of training your dog every time You open a door have them hold a five to Ten second stay well veronica peed on my Bed last night oh man Potty training has kind of been unusual In this experience so far with potty Training the trick is to get a dog to Generalize a hundred percent of the Living space as their own living area You would think in a tiny trailer that Would make our job easier there’s not Many places to go yeah it’s like a big Crate for humans yeah it’s not going Great here it’s just to me i can bear Spray him i don’t think we should bear Spray We’re in these mountains it’s dark There’s bears and i was like if you have To pee you’ll totally bark and wake me Up and she totally didn’t there are Bears everywhere and i was too afraid to Go back outside in the dark yeah peeing On the bed is definitely a better Alternative it’s not like you go from

Accidents to no accidents like that at Least not most of the time because she Hasn’t been having accidents overnight That much at all like she’s trending Well away from that but you still got That one of those hopefully last Instances of that happening i don’t even Know what to say to work on about that i Just have to take her out more right yes Okay world’s most concise potty training Advice with zach george it’s only Natural to let your guard down after you Have a streak of successes which means i Think we should take a step back make Sure we schedule in a very late potty Break or even one in the middle of the Night no need to over complicate it oh You see the b yeah It’s okay don’t worry i watched a number Of b accounts on tick tock and you can Tell by this bees body language that They’re likely not going to stink one of The reasons we place such a strong Emphasis on training our dogs is so that We can enjoy the world and bring them as Many places as reasonably possible yeah We like to take them with us as much as We can the journey with inertia being a Fairly dog reactive dog over the years Has been an interesting one and so it’s Something i’m always continually trying To improve and improve and she’s done Great and veronica has been a little Reactive too but i feel like she has the

Potential to like be able to go all Kinds of places and you know mostly keep It together she can’t do that at all Right now but i’m really trying to get There and i think this is the only way i Don’t want to make it look like our dogs Are perfect as well as inertia has done Over the last years of training it’s Been due to really careful environmental Management too dogs just like people are Never exactly perfect but it’s an Asymptote right you you approach Perfection but you never get there and The idea is to continually try and get Just a tiny bit closer Everyone in the comments is like dogs Are born perfect you guys are right it’s True we’re in one of our primary science Targets here in the colorado rocky Mountains we really want to get an up Close and personal look and see what’s Around here and i’m really curious to See how the dogs react in this very Special location this is the colorado River the very start of it oh just like You’d think ice ice cold super freezing I mean she just tried to launch herself Into the river i need a life jacket for Her veronica you’re gonna have to learn How to swim before you do that veronica Just continues to be more and more Interested in water though i’m afraid She would be flash frozen if she went in This water it’s so cold she loves to

Splash around and i like to let her but I keep preventing like a full swim we’re Gonna have to teach her to swim Eventually i feel the most prepared i Have ever felt because i have veronica Tied to me i also have bear spray tied To me can you see that i have treats i Have poop bags now all you gotta do is Train your dog oh yeah It’s like we’re reminded every day at How wild this earth can actually be we Have a herd of elk i mean we’re just Walking around and oh there’s like 17 Million elk right there that’s an Accurate number how fast can they run uh 35 miles an hour 35 miles an hour she’s Saying yeah that seems about right elk Are not small animals at all they’re Very large animals i haven’t had to Train dogs to specifically stay away From elk before yeah we’re finding some High-stakes training opportunities these Days truthfully it’s kind of Overwhelming for me because i don’t even Know how to behave i’m fascinated by so Much of what we’re seeing you’re always Looking for training opportunities for The dogs but the number of real-life Leave-its that zach has to do while We’re out is pretty insane interesting Botany i know one of you can tell me What these are right here i don’t know What this flower is i feel like i’m Really taking our own advice

Very literally in showing our dog the World right now this is like next level Socialization so i’m almost wondering if It can backfire i mean is there such a Thing as showing the dog too much of the World too quickly i mean we adopted Veronica from mexico it is mind-blowing How much real estate she is encountering Everywhere we go that is like huge and Incredible i keep taking her and being Like look at this do you understand it Do you know where you are you’re at the Continental divide this is crazy i’m Really trying to impress upon her how Amazing her life is right now because It’s nuts what do you think it’s a Continental divide it’s pretty big not Like you i’m at 10 000 feet right now We’re looking at a definitive geological Feature that Divides Much of north america that snow is gonna Go to the atlantic ocean that snow is Gonna go to the pacific ocean do you see How crazy that is you should go squirt a Water bottle and let some of it go to Either place I could not resist that idea here There it’s gonna end up in two oceans From the same bottle but we will make Sure the bottle does not end up in the Ocean being able to control where those Hydrogen and oxygen atoms would Eventually end up made me feel weirdly

Powerful one fabulous thing about brie Is that she’s so good about taking Advantage of the local culture and What’s unique about that area and Appreciating it free you’re taking this Pretty seriously yes taste of the Rockies And what are those It’s the rocky i know i know where’s the Other dog right here oh there she is Hey what’s up it feels like traveling With the dogs is becoming really smooth On road days at this point everything’s Super predictable they’re very well Behaved i’m expecting there to basically Be no problems between here and our next Stop at all it’s time to go find our Next location we’re thinking we’re gonna Be hitting wyoming we found a cool spot Out there it’s a boondocking spot i Can’t wait for wyoming i can’t wait to Get there and enjoy the beautiful Weather I have never been to wyoming and i am Stoked i’m so excited all right youtube We’ve just had to make an emergency stop We were driving to our next destination And all of a sudden the wind just Started picking up you have to see this This is some of the strongest wind i Have felt yeah we were supposed to drive For another four hours or something Today yeah and we just can’t Well

We had to make an emergency wind stop This is not an ocean This is a lake and this is zach Seriously Showing you guys that it’s so windy i Can hear the commenters now they’re like Dude have you never seen wind before Veronica’s intrigued gusts of 53 miles An hour right now sustained around 30 or So we’ve both been in hurricanes before So it’s gonna be like a cat two cat Three something like that we’re gonna Get the Worst part Like the inner eye wall right over us But i’m actually more scared right now That i have been in hurricanes because Of the fact that we’re in a trailer You’re the one who said hey look point The trailer that way because the winds Are blowing i mean you can see the waves That’s the direction of the wind she’s Gonna eat your nuts hey can you leave it Alone good girl that was a good real Life leave it thank you see four seconds Real life leave it in a windstorm yeah She needs exercise and i cannot go out There yeah it’s kind of a weather Emergency it’s very hard to walk out There as well and fairly extreme weather Events like this can be super Advantageous for dogs it’s yet another Unusual event for them to experience Veronica is getting blown over having a

Dog that is stable in extreme conditions Like this you can see how that would be Valuable maybe it’s a windstorm one day And it’s a parade the next day look how Brave is me talking veronica trying to Do a potty break in the middle of a Windstorm i appreciate him so much Because i did not want to do that body Break that’s our setup right there Look what i’ve done i put these Stabilizers down to hopefully stabilize The trailer on the upside this is a Great experience for the dogs i mean They really get to experience a Windstorm a shaking trailer a really Semi-alien environment all we had to Really do is risk our Lives there’s a goose in trouble the Wind just dramatically picked up oh look He decided to lay down thank goodness we Survived that and thank goodness this Goose did as well the wind storm passed Overnight good thing another weather Emergency isn’t going to happen Immediately before we wake up come on i Did not want to winter in my rv how’s it Going great you wanted a snow day didn’t You so you’re giving your mom some love Huh how do i get love like that yeah i Was loving it i was cuddling with the Dogs i was feeling great i woke up i saw The snow and i knew that you were going To be the one that had to deal with the Solar panels my solar panels are covered

In snow i’ve got to figure out some way To get the snow up in my solar panels You’re a good husband i knew that i Could rely on you to not make me go get Out there in that snow Jeez Just checking on our solar panels hey Hey I need a longer broom uh oh well it’s Not windy anymore now we have icy road Driving conditions to deal with so we’re Grounded guys we’re stuck here right now Until it’s safe to get about but it’s Colder here where i am right now than it Is in alaska and we are deep in the Colorado rocky mountains right now zach Is outside dealing with ice and snow i’m Reminded time is still passing even While the world is frozen over because Veronica just lost literally her biggest Teeth but can you let go yeah that’s a Tooth it’s a canine you lost a canine ha Ha animals are fascinating i love Animals do you agree comment below this Is fresh water this is a mountain lake Right here a reservoir and there are Dozens and dozens of these big white Pelicans nine-foot wingspan these guys Have i wouldn’t have even known to think That pelicans could both exist in a Freshwater climate as well as a Saltwater climate i would have assumed They were coastal birds turns out these Guys are both it turns out that this is

A really rare event like a once a year Event they come here dramatically like a Thousand miles inland or more this is Where they all come to make their babies That’s what i learned yeah and it just Happened to be pretty much in this Little tiny part of the world yeah at This one time of year as a dog trainer People ask me all the time what do you Do when extreme weather happens and You’ve got to train your dog or there’s A lot of snow or it’s really cold i Think you just got to bundle up and get Out there and work with your dog i mean There’s no bad weather only bad clothes What are you trying to tell me you want To play the weather Is snowy and cold That’s not going to keep us from Exercising generally speaking a lot of Dogs don’t care about the snow and i Mean if you’re gonna bring a dog into Your life that needs year-round exercise Even when it’s snowy outside get a Jacket get some snow pants and play in The snow yeah i mean of course there’s a Line you have to draw for safety like When the hurricane was happening we Didn’t exercise our dogs but now this Morning it is only snowing and so we can And we’ll make sure that they’re safe And protected while we do it Good you’ve got it All your teeth are gone

I know she lost the canine today That was one of her best teeth Yes good girl ready fetch continues to Be a critical part of veronica’s Training routine she’s got so much Energy and this is our favorite way to Get it out on our terms veronica got to See snow for the very first time this Morning veronica’s first snow came a Little earlier than i expected it’s may In colorado and now this is her first Time playing fetch in it i think she’s Learning very quickly the world just Dramatically changes every day so in her Mind maybe it’s normal like oh yesterday We had wind now we have snow inertia is Doing great on this road trip you know One of the ways that i maintain her Training is by asking for just a little Bit of obedience here and there during Our fetch play That’s that’s a really good time for us To keep her training really sharp Practicing Stay with distractions really the basics And it’s super easy when she’s in that Motivated mindset to cooperate with you Oh Nice one good job inertia it’s been a Minute since inertia played fetch in the Snow too i mean since winter at least Because it again is not winter i cannot Emphasize enough how not winter it’s Supposed to be right now it’s over 90

Degrees in new orleans and it’s snowing Here inertia is used to playing fetch in The snow but now we’re on a lake with Like a ton of birds which are definitely One of her favorite things so she’s Doing great i’ve never tested her in Such a variety of off-leash environments So close together before this experience And that’s going to continue hopefully There will be no mishaps it’s getting Pretty late in the day so i think we’re Going to stay here one more night the Snow is starting to melt so we should be Okay tomorrow plus i just want one more Cozy night in the trailer there are Worse places to be stuck i mean here we Are in this wildlife refuge very Isolated All right we’re moving on well we’re Doing a potty break then we’re moving on You would not believe how often our dogs Have to behave in the presence of large Animals wow look they hopped Just like antelope did you see it yes Good job guys they did the thing look at Them playing chase awesome zack stopped To let air out of the tire because the Tire pressure’s high and these cows are Just watching him hey cows Inertia it’s okay they’re just cows They’re supposed to be there She’s unsure Veronica doesn’t know what everyone’s Parking under the trailer you were yeah
