Of we have students actually in over 60 Countries across the globe but where are You guys tuning in from and what time is It there uh it's let's see it's a little After 11 A.M here Dade City Florida all Right very good very good so it's warm And sunny is what you're saying it's 31 In Breeze I think they're getting some Cold this week though if I read Correctly I was kind of I like to watch The weather in different places Sometimes I get a little confused but I Think Florida might be getting some Cooler weather whichever everybody goes Crazy about like oh my gosh it's getting Below zero or below Thirty you know and What should we do with our pets what Should we do with our flowers and all of That so yeah definitely we get questions All the time about what to do with the Dogs when it's cold outside oh in real Island you got a dump of snow last night And in Maryland we've got two two people Tuning in for Maryland 61 please send some warm weather my way Allison you're in Arizona I am in Western New York so we have quite the Difference in temperatures here as well Yeah but that's okay we're gonna we're Gonna get through this I I think Michelle Dunn is probably going to have A great opportunity for maybe a Decompression walk today or just a Little Audi with the pup we definitely

Uh have it easy when it's a little more Sunny and we can take our dogs out but I Know a lot of dogs who love snow so that Can also be fun we don't get to enjoy That here yeah yeah all right um in the Comments below let me know who's working On crate training just I'm gonna have a Couple of questions for you here I want You to want you to let us know what you Guys are working on who's working on Crate training that's the first one and Then what about those working on potty Training was little Monty has a little Poop exit in here whoopsies All right oh Ivy says it's 4 P.M okay me All right you can let us know too like If it's the potty training you're Working on the crate training All the above maybe you're working on Fixing some unwanted behaviors and if so What are those let me know in the Comments is it barking is it fighting do You have a puppy that's pulling on the Leash do you have a puppy that's jumping Yeah six weeks and going well for the Crate very good that's really good uh BD Because crepe can be a little Overwhelming for a for a six week old Puppy so the reason I'm asking these Questions is because sometimes you know Our trappy today puppy blue sometimes Um when you're experiencing all of these Things you do start to feel a little Frustrated you start to feel a little

Overwhelmed which again we're gonna We're gonna kind of talk about how to Work through this you're working on both Party and great training very good Loving it loving it okay All right before we hop into our Presentation real quick I just want to Give a shout out to those guys that Participated last week Um last week we posted on Instagram uh a Little thing that we were going live we Actually pulled a winner so for those of You guys um that are going to be uh Tuning in a little bit later and you Want a chance to win as well we're going To let you know how to do that at the End of this presentation so stay tuned You too could have a chance to win a Little something something we're going To also announce the winner of last Week's uh drawing as well You can find us on Facebook you can find Us on YouTube highly recommend that you Hit that subscribe so you get notified When we go live or when new videos come Out Um and then of course we're on Instagram As well so uh definitely check us out There Um Caitlin will definitely be posting a Post on one of the platforms like I said We'll we'll announce that at the end and Then you'll be able to go and comment Under there so

All right let's see what we've got going On here Um how many of you guys have joined the Puppy training with Michelle Lennon Facebook group that's a really valuable Resource it's a free group for advice on Puppy training run by professionals run By us moderated by uh six days a week in There have you guys joined that if so Awesome awesome if not what are you Waiting for uh Caitlin will definitely Share the link Facebook group you're Going to want to get in there just Because I feel like it's Ellison it's Like a library of resources there's a Lot of great questions that are Constantly coming through a lot of Support our quit our responses to any Questions that come through our first Comments so you're going to want to take A peek there you And the thing that's that I love about It is that it really does contain a lot Of good information from from you know Professional sources Um but then also there's other people Who can kind of contribute like we were Having a conversation over the weekend About Um split antlers and somebody was just Talking about them with their pup and Maybe was it a little too hard right now While the puppy was teething and other People were kind of giving some

Commentary about whether their dogs Really like split antlers or whether It's something that they want to wait on Until the adult teeth come in you know That the group is kind of like um Poison Control you know like you know how you Call a poison control and you're like These guys are the professionals help me Like I have a very specific question and And I know you guys are going to steer Me right on this one and you're gonna Tell me what's best and and what to do And you trust them and you're like I got It it's a great number you have it Hanging on your fridge whatever it's Kind of like that you can post questions And you're gonna get a really good Answer and you're gonna get some Probably a link to a resource to even Learn a little bit more and you can Trust the information and you know Facebook is Facebook is as Facebook does It's not always going to be answered in In other groups by people who maybe know The the more science behind their answer So yeah I'm a little partial to this Group I love it yeah I've I've been in a Couple other groups uh and we call it The Wild Wild West and some of those Other groups you've got people just Throwing out crazy answers that have no Clue what they're talking about they Mean well they totally mean well but They're like who some of their

Information and training is dated and Old school and scary and using aversives And all that that crazy Jazz so we Definitely give you the latest the Science-based a positive approach to Training so again join that group if you If you aren't a member Let's hop over to Um why you're here you're here because You want to learn a little bit more About the puppy blues or how to handle It so I have a question for you to get The party started here which one of These best represents you right now is a New puppy owner is everything going Really well give me an a if everything's Going really well A bee you kind of like the I'm not sure I've made it made the right choice in Bringing home a puppy see this is not Going as expected D send help I can't do This alone or E I'm pretty much ready to Just throw in the towel and find a new Home for this puppy where are you guys At in your in your uh your training Journey your your puppy ownership this New puppy thing and all of these are Very very normal so don't feel bad about Anything no you don't feel bad that's Actually the next slide Exactly all right oh we got some D's That's okay all right send help can't do This alone no worries Currently struggling with biting and

Aggressive behavior 14 week old Cavapoo Okay No worries on that one either all right So it's uh a lot of people are feeling a But I tuned in today so I know how to Handle it oh when I get to the park okay I like that great mindset yeah excellent Michelle very good yeah so so it sounds Like Michelle is thinking ahead to uh Maybe prevent uh or at least know what's Coming up which is exactly one of the Tenets of kind of understanding your dog Is knowing what's going to come so you Can kind of prevent it or at least Understand it when you see it so great Job Michelle gold star yeah this one I Like this one too I'm not I'm not sure I've made the right choice Um you know sometimes it was a little Crazy got some help needed help things Are going to be turning around though It's getting better now and that's That's the key so Um Let's just skip right over that one you Guys don't need to know you need you do Need to know that all of you guys that Put you know anything below a right Where you're just kind of like unsure You're not quite all right did you did You make the right decision you are not Alone you you have a you are among a Group of people and the percentage is Over 50 50 of people brand new puppy

Owners feel the puppy blues and I feel Like not a lot of people are talking About it they're they're sometimes you See these you should know better or you Should do better or get over it or no I Don't want you to ever think like that It's real you brought home a little Creature a little furry potato we like To call it and you don't know a lot About them quite yet you their needs are High oh my goodness they do you not feel Like they need you every second of the Day brand new puppies right you were Talking brand new puppies here You're you're learning and growing and Discovering how to to communicate with Him how to train them their skills are Kind of low right now so they don't know How to perform all the things you want Them to do or know And you guys speak a totally different Language right now Allison you'd like to Give that example of the the foreign Language or foreign you know a country Kind of thing yeah so like I kind of Feel like imagine as if you went to a Foreign country and you didn't speak the Language so maybe you know like I would Go to Germany I don't speak German and I Was given a classroom of like Kindergartners and told you know you Need to teach them how to color in the Lines I'm like I don't I mean I know how To color in the lines I know how I would

Do it in my language but I don't know How to teach them and so you have to Really figure out what is this common Language that you can come up with in Order to teach them skills and that's Really your puppy is relying on you to Teach them what you'd like them to know But they don't speak your language so You guys have to kind of figure out how Do I speak a little bit more puppy and How do I get my puppy to speak a little Bit more of my language Yeah yeah it's it's you're you're you're Getting to know each other you're Developing a relationship you're Learning you're learning to watch them Better right you're trying to figure out What they're saying based on body Language and behavior and that's Something we teach our students a lot About is watching their dogs and seeing What what's happening you know the ears The mouth the tail the body stance that All means something and so you're you're Probably learning or at least we hope You do and if you don't know inside our 30 data puppy Perfection program we Actually have in the bonus section A Whole module like I think it's honestly I think it's like four hours worth of Content just on Canine body language People are like what do you mean it's Four hours and we're like there is so Much to learn so much to discover about

What your dog is saying and a lot of People kind of get it wrong I hate to Say it like that but they do because Social media puts all these uh videos Out there with this happy-go-lucky music And it dog that looks happy but they're Actually stressed and so it kind of Perpetuates the message we're here to Help educate you guys on what's really Happening that way you get to learn what They need what you need to do to get Them to a place of comfort and then Through this whole process The the discovering process you start to Feel more confident and slowly but Surely those puppy Blues start to go Away because you know more about what Your puppy needs The thing I love about that module with The canine communication is that it's Like you getting some keys to the castle You're like oh I'm kind of unlocking Like this new um this new area you know Like in a video game or something but Then you can apply it right away so You're like oh okay so I watched that on Like ear placement and what that might Mean and where the ears are forward or Backward or kind of what they're doing And then immediately you can start to Watch your dog and be like oh there There it is that's the thing that's the Thing that she mentioned what's Happening what is maybe that's what he's

Feeling right now and that's the the Cool thing is when you're learning this New language and you you start to use it Right away because your dog is right There giving you all those Clues you Just don't quite know that they're there Yet yeah I think that that's you know Some of it right some of it is that You're frustrated with The Unwanted Behaviors and you're trying to figure That out but you're also recognizing That your your puppy needs certain Things throughout the day and if they Don't get those needs don't get met You're going to start to see those Unwanted behaviors and kind of what Allison was saying here you know one of The things we do to help you guys with The puppy Blues is educate you on what Your dog really needs that's what she Was saying you know learning the body Language Um it's it's helping you develop good Schedules you know I think a lot of new Puppy owners they get frustrated because They don't they their puppy's not Snapping enough And then they're not able to get Anything done and they're feeling Overwhelmed because the chores aren't Getting done that the puppy just seems Extra super needy and it you get almost Into this this cycle of the puppy Doesn't nap enough the the puppy gets

Over stimulated you see more unwanted Behaviors it creates this negative Relationship you're like ah this is not What I signed up for So we help you guys create those Schedules uh provide the right amount of Enrichment for your puppy throughout the Day so all their needs are getting met And enrichment really meaning uh more Than just puzzle toys you know we're Talking about good food Um healthy lifestyle Safety and Security Uh a variety of things think of all Those things that you know make your Your life enriching and then what could Those be for a dog and that's really to Be honest what a Richmond is you're in This this stage right now where you're Trying to build a relationship up with Um with a little being that you don't Know a lot about yet you know you want To love them you know you want them to Love you back you want to snuggle you Want to cuddle you want to do all the Fun activities and things that you've Dreamed of doing with your dog but You're not 100 on the right same page Quite yet you're like over here doing This thing or wanting this thing and Your puppy has these natural needs and Urges and tendencies you know species Typical behaviors Things like digging or barking or Chewing and and sometimes you think I

Don't want any of that I don't want you I don't want you to do that puppy but we Have to recognize those needs need to be Met in order for the puppy to have that Emotional cup filled right so if it's Not filled they're gonna you're gonna See more of it in other ways so let's Say we take away digging right you're Like I don't want this dog to dig I'm so Frustrated when they dig Okay so if you attempt to try to take That away they're still going to have That need and urge so they're going to End up doing it in ways that you don't Like even more so if we give the proper Outlet for it like a dig pit or a kitty Pool in the backyard filled with dirt or I think an I dig toy or something like That if we give them the proper Outlet This actually channels that energy in a Positive way and now they're not digging Your couch cushions and rugs inside does That make sense Makes sense to me and I've definitely Seen it where Lincoln really likes to he Does like to dig and he also likes to Shred and You're thinking well that's quite Destructive and it can be Um except that I give him the things to Dig into shred that are appropriate for Him he can shred Um like paper like car like paper bags Um and he doesn't swallow it he just

Spits it out because there's treats Inside so he's like oh I want the treats I don't like this paper it doesn't taste Very good so I give him lots of Opportunities to shred I also give him Lots of opportunities to dig and he can Dig like in a busy box or we have this I Dig toy and so those needs get met and He doesn't do it outside he doesn't Shred pillows or blankets or my carpet Or anything like that so but I do Recognize that that's what he loves to Do absolutely and for those of you guys That are like whoa she gives her dog Paper and cardboard and my dog could Never do that you might give your dog a Head of lettuce a half a head of lettuce Or cabbage or celery or carrots to to Shred something other than you know Something that you you don't want your Dog to eat but those are edible and Those are safe we always see these kinds Of activities are supervised only anyway So it's not like you're going to be Giving your dog something and then Walking away and not supervising and it Could be for you guys especially that Work from home puppies over here in a Puppy pen you're on your computer you're Typing away and you just continue to Just peek over every few minutes to Check in on them so it could be Something as simple as that yeah Lincoln It's for Lincoln is a very social

Activity I give him the thing to shred I Mean I'm sitting right there kind of Just watching him you know kind of on my Phone sometimes and then he'll kind of Work it through and then he'll look at Me and and then I kind of do it as a Game like is there anything else did we Miss anything so then I start to kind of Rummage around in the in the mess and He's like oh yeah here we go let's check For anything more so it's a very kind of Human dog bonding moment for us and and Then I clean it all up and then we move On to the next activity but it's Something we really love to do together Yeah I don't shred though That'd be that I need if you if you ever Decide to we're going to need uh puppy Pictures of that yeah different kind of Professional Health there Uh okay guys the other thing too is if You are struggling with the puppy Blues You can't serve from an empty Cup right If you're trying to help your puppy and You're not feeling it and you're feeling Frustrated overwhelmed like I said like We said you're feeling the puppy Blues You too have to help yourself you have To get to a place of comfort and Happiness and that way it can help your Puppy and it's this it's kind of like The spiderweb the circle the spider web Whatever analogy or image we want to use Everything is kind of tied together so

How your puppy feels how they react to You is a direct connection of how you Feel as well and what you're doing we've Seen a lot of people go oh my puppy Keeps biting me and then we start to Talk to them ask some questions and and Discover that they're really frustrated So they they they talk a little harshly They kind of keep pushing the puppy away Thinking that's gonna make it better When it actually is making it worse so Then the puppy's kind of like oh hands Movement totally drawn to that so we Want to help you get to a place where You're happy and you're comfortable and You know feeling your own emotional cup And then you can also fill your puppies Too so that's just something to kind of Keep in the back of your mind Mm-hmm All right the other things to consider You know if you're struggling or if You're feeling these these Blues we have To make sure that our expectations are In check as well so just natural you Know development of a puppy what does That look like making sure that you know Like I said expectations are low and Patients are high you know puppies are Very needy in the beginning they are They they need a lot of uh potty breaks You might be cleaning up a lot of Accidents they need frequent trips Outside you might be waking up in the

Middle of the night having to take them Out those are all things that are kind Of like oh goodness when is this going To end good news the good news is there Is a light at the end of the channel This isn't going to be like this forever Usually the first I'm going to say a Couple of months are a little hairy They're alone they're a little Overwhelming because you're probably not Getting the sleep that you used to get Before the puppy came home you're not Meeting up with your friends as Frequently as you were before because You've got a puppy now and chores are Kind of uh going by the wayside and You're like oh when am I gonna get to The laundry what am I going to get to The my puppy's crying do I get them out Of the crate should I leave them in the Crate what do I do so if you're if You're that give me give me a me this is Me if you've ever had any of those Moments The thing that I really find helpful is Like you said understanding the natural Development of a puppy kind of Understanding how they're going to kind Of advance and we inherently understand That about human babies and so kind of It makes it a little easier oh I know That they don't talk yet but they will And I know that they you know like to Suck and eventually they'll walk or

Whatever but it's harder because we Don't necessarily know this about dogs But understanding the physical Development as well oh when do their Teeth start falling out and what does That feel like and when does their Bladder start getting stronger and how Do you make a bladder stronger like These even kind of physical Characteristics that will change as the Dog grows is really helpful to Understand because then it can help you Understand why they're acting the way That they do yeah I see Jen's come in Here she just says good advice no one Wants to admit they get frustrated No one no one does but we should because That's the other part of this too is I'm Sure I think I'm going getting ahead of Myself but you saying it out loud you Can start to recognize that you're Feeling a little different and then Other people can help you because you're Going to be asking we encourage you ask For help as well ask for help to come in And maybe just somebody come in and play With your puppy so that you can you know Go to the gym or go for a walk or go out With a friend to get a cup of coffee It's not selfish because again you know The if you stay in that state of mind Where you're frustrated and overwhelmed All the time It's going to be very hard for you to to

Get to that place of positive with your Puppy so yeah it's it is important to Recognize that and and admit it it's Okay you know that's why we talk about This because it's puppy Blues are real Where people are like I don't know if I Made the right choice I probably Shouldn't say anything anybody they're Gonna feel like I'm not you know good at This and no everybody everybody goes Through at least a moment of that I mean Full disclosure here you know I've I've Had many dogs over the years and yeah With everyone every one of them I'm kind Of I'm the trainer and I'm kind of like Oh this one's a okay we're gonna go Through this I know what to do let's Let's go into trainer mode here let's do The things I do schedules and and Reinforcing all the behaviors I want to See more of But those first few you know weeks Especially with a puppy and getting up In the middle of the night you're like Why did I why did I sign up for this Weekend okay there's a light at the end Of the tunnel it gets better if it Didn't nobody would get puppies right Get puppies they do because it does get Better All right let's see here um we do have a Couple of YouTube videos Um that could help you as well uh the One I would love for um Caitlyn's going

To share in the comments what to expect The first year that can be really Helpful to just set expectations Um and then if you are brand new to us And you haven't grabbed the free Resource a new puppy starter kit that's A great place to start as well there's Some potty training tips in there There's some things to you know make Sure you're working on and not doing Um there's a bell training lesson in There so I would definitely take a look at it There that could be very helpful for you Yeah just kind of get you started with Some kind of foundational knowledge to Kind of get through the first little bit There yeah a few minutes ago we were Talking about uh body language and we Were talking about how important it is For you guys to learn what your dog is Saying without actually verbally saying Anything right it's not like they can Tell you hey I'm not loving this can you Stop or I'm not loving this can we get Out of here They are in a way and it's through that Body language so I think that uh it's to Me I feel like every new puppy owner Should really learn this I would love it If they learned it before the puppy came Home but I get it it's not always the The case but you could learn it after They come home as well

So one of the things we focus a lot on At our Pro level uh where the students Join us on group Zoom calls and post Questions in the Facebook group We focus a lot on body language on our Wednesday call we call it the work it Out Wednesday call we actually share Videos I think it's is it the next slide Yeah we share here's our Zoom calls and We share these these things that are Happening and we talk them out talk About what's going on with the ears What's the dog saying with the tail Because it bragging tail isn't always a Happy dog that might come as a surprise To many of you but it's true could be Anxious could be overwhelmed could be Over stimulated Um we talk about a variety of different Scenarios that you guys are probably Working through they're trying to figure Out what to do and so on these calls it Gives us a chance to really break down What's happening and kind of talk about The who what where when why questions The the what are some things as a Frustrated puppy owner that you should Consider or think about to kind of help Yourself work through these and so Through this this learning style the way That we present it on our our Wednesday Calls our students Come Away with a vast Set of you know tips and knowledge and Things like that to work through these

Unwanted behaviors at home this helps to Alleviate that stress that they're Feeling and that that overwhelm The thing I love about the Wednesday Call is it really works for a lot of Different people who learn in different Ways and you know we're definitely here With you guys today and we're kind of Giving you these great tips and we see Your comments and we can kind of Interact a little bit but it's not as Kind of organic as it would be if we can Yeah and so on those Wednesday calls It's really like people will be like Well I think what if we advised this Person to do this and we'd be like you Know what that's a great idea but what Would you do if this happens and so we Can just really kind of really apply That information that they're getting in A way that people really enjoy it's very Conversational it's very positive and People really kind of feel like they've Learned a lot and sometimes they don't Even realize they didn't know it and They didn't even realize that they Needed it and then like the next week They're like a thing we just talked About it came up it happened and I Remembered what we might do about it so It's just such a nice uh hour that we Kind of spend all kind of talking about Um puppies in a way that we all learn From differently yeah for sure I think

That people always at the end of the Call were like did anybody learn Anything and I didn't barely even get The sentence out everybody's hand goes Up so that's pretty cool All right one of the other things here's Some homework for you some actionable Things that you you can do you know to Try to work through these these unwanted Behaviors So we have to make sure that we are we Are creating some sort of schedule and Also keeping a log of what happened I would say the majority of unwanted Behaviors stem from a couple different Things one of them being puppies not on A great schedule so it's throwing Everything off they're over stimulated They're over tired they're cranky you if You've been with me long enough you've Probably heard me use the analogy of Like a little kid at the end of the day At the amusement park where they're just Overwhelmed the lights and the sounds And the smells and the rides and all the Things have have gotten them to a point Of overwhelm and so then you do start to See more biting behavior and then owners Are getting frustrated they're like what Is wrong with this dog what am I what's What do I need to do differently how do I teach them not to bite And while we can't teach them not to Bite because we do want them to bite

Certain things because they they're Teasing most of them up until about Let's say six months somewhere in there We want to provide outlets for them But you could redirect a hundred times Which we're going to encourage you to Keep redirecting you could do that a Hundred times but if the puppy's over Tired and they're not getting the right Amount of sleep you're gonna still see a Cranky puppy so in order to help Yourself you have to get yourself and Your puppy on a really good schedule There is a sample one sample I say Sample because it's it's just to kind of Get your brain thinking of some Activities that need to be included on It inside that new puppy starter kit we Mentioned a little bit earlier we Actually coming soon we actually have a Puppy schedule mini course we're hoping To launch it in the next week or so so Stay tuned for that if you're like I Have no idea how to put a schedule Together We don't have it yet for you it's Actually in literally being edited down And put together for you right now as we Speak so but for now I want you to keep A log so you can start to see what Happens and see oh whoa my puppy's been Up for a little too long so for example Eight week old puppy a wake window is About an hour to an hour and a half and

That might come as a surprise you might Be oh my gosh my puppy's been up for Like three hours no wonder they're Cranky they're over tired did you also Know Allison how many hours does a Eight-week-old puppy need to sleep in a 24-hour period a lot I think usually we Say like 18 right yeah like 16 to 18. so If your puppy's not getting enough sleep Again another reason you're seeing these Unwanted behaviors and then you're Probably getting more frustrated with Them So between the watching their their body Language to learn their their levels of Comfort or interest or or maybe even Overstimulation you're going to start to Learn what their preferences are what They need including naps so if you start To see some behaviors that are not Jiving with what you've got going on in Your life it might be because they need A nap and I want to say this um if You've ever said out loud I know my Puppy just needs a timeout I want you to Throw that phrase out the window and Instead I want you to replace it with my Puppy needs a nap and what do naps look Like they they look like maybe an hour Or two depending on the age or even Longer so timeouts don't don't work for Puppies like they do for our kids you Know we go okay I'm gonna put the kid in A Timeout they're going to think about

What they did and hopefully when they Come out they'll be you know they won't Make that mistake again puppies are not Like that that's a very complex thought Process so it is likely then that they Just need a nap they need to rest and Recharge those batteries but know when They wake up from that nap they're going To have more energy so you're going to Need to give them an outlet to release That pent-up energy And that could be allowing Zoomies in The backyard that could be going for a Decompression walk that could be giving Them uh some sort of find it game around The house or a busy box something that Really kind of channels that energy in a Positive way allowing you then to have An opportunity to work on some training Games you know things that are going to Help like for example bump it instead of Bite bite it we like to teach bump Instead of bite so that's one that That's in module one of our of our 30 Data puppy Perfection course Those are simple things you could do but You're probably not going to be able to Play bump it if your puppy just woke up From a nap So we want to get some energy out find That sweet spot in the middle of the Wake window work on some fun games Then maybe we give them a cool down Activity maybe some self-guided play

Where they're just hanging out with Their toys and it's probably time for Another nap at that point So many naps Absolutely so keep a schedule that is Definitely your homework for sure is Just write stuff down try to try to get In a good schedule of naps and play and Enrichment and training and it might be On repeat throughout the day and for Those of you guys that work we know you Work we do know you work just know that Your puppy still has needs even when You're at work so that might mean that You have to hire some help or have a Friend come in or a neighbor come in as Well it's uh if we again if we don't Meet that puppy's needs it's this Vicious cycle of you getting frustrated And they don't know what to do different And they're over tired and over Stimulated and and then you're Frustrated and I don't want you to get To a point in where you do go okay I Think it's time to get rid of the puppy Because You you you're so much closer to a happy Relationship than you think if you just Tweak a few things All right Talked about this just a moment ago Puppies have a lot of energy so what we Recommend we you heard me say Decompression walks I'm gonna have

Caitlyn share the decompression walk Video in the canine enrichment video Those are two I think would be very Useful for you guys very helpful we Actually discourage neighborhood walks To start Allison do you want to explain Why yeah you know I really see this um With Lincoln the neighborhoods are very Busy and it may feel like no no I got a Really quiet neighborhood but the There's just you know there's cars Strollers bikers people walking mail Delivery package delivery garbage trucks There's a lot going on and then there's Things that we can't see but your dog is Actually experiencing way more than he Realizes all the smells and so I really Found this with Lincoln that the Neighborhood was quite overwhelming and Then you know we got to stay on the Sidewalk and we got across the street And there was just a lot more like Restrictions and be like no no Lincoln We got to go this way and no no you Can't go in that yard And when I when I when I was able to Take him to like the soccer field and it Was totally open and we could just Explore and there was no one around and It was really kind of tucked away and it Was just wide open space he could just Completely wander more freely we weren't Trying to kind of oh you got to stay Here you know kind of near me it was so

Much more rewarding for him and I found Myself like not needing to say anything Because he was just doing his thing I Didn't have to be like thinking come This way It was just so much more relaxing of a Walk and I still do those probably 90 of The time and then when we're not able to Kind of get to the soccer field or a Park or wherever we like to go then We'll do like usually a quick Neighborhood walk but they're not my They're not my ideal yeah they're not His either he just gets a little bit More you know anxious about the neighbor Dogs are a little bigger than him he's Got you know he he doesn't like a lot of Other dogs in in neighborhood walks you Know for for the difference between them You'll see it in that uh decompression Walk video that Caitlyn shared in the Comments you'll learn it's on a Completely different leash on a backlit Harness in a completely different Location so neighborhood walks though Are done on a short leash and then That's likely meaning your dog needs to Have some more leash skills which we can Help you with that's that's also in our Our course but if you don't have that Yet it's likely that your dog's gonna Either start pulling you down the street Or weaving in and out or circling around You or you know it's probably too much

For for you you and them to try to have A relaxing time while you're out there So Yeah and it comes as a surprise for many People but I think once you start to Watch your dog's body language and then You do experience a very relaxing and Rewarding decompression walk you'll be Like oh okay I see it now And again neighborhood walks can Definitely serve a purpose you're like I You know he just really needs to kind of Get some some movement going or some Exercise just for a little bit and That's fine depending on your dog but in General I bet you'll find those Decompression walks to be much more Interesting for them I feel like if we Pulled maybe there's even some watching Now I'm pretty sure Sam and Simone I Think they said that they were going to Be on they're one of our Pro level Students the difference in behavior when You go for a decompression walk it's Just it's such an amazing you know we've Had so many students tell us oh my gosh It's like night and day like the Difference in behavior when my dog gets Her decompression walks versus not Getting them So just something to consider you know And this again then helps you feel Comfortable and confident And a little bit of those puppy Blues

Start to be you know start to melt away So oh here's Joan Jones on she's a pro Level student Sammy loves you Compression walks awesome very good All right so One of the other things that you're Going to be working on when you're Trying to help Melt Away these puppy Blues is you're in the process of Building a relationship up right This includes taking some time to invest In yourself and in the training process And creating that common language that You've heard us mention a couple times You know understanding why The Unwanted Behavior is happening in the first place And what you can do to make sure your Puppy's needs are met so that you start To see a decrease in those unwanted Behaviors or at least they're channeled In a different way that's more positive But also recognizing you know you are The critical thinker in this Relationship your puppy's not going to Be able to just read your mind and Figure out what you want them to do Differently it comes down to you working With them training them reinforcing Hundreds and hundreds of times of all The things you want to see more of I Think we get into this habit Um pretty frequently where it's stop it Cut it out don't do that no bad you know Like we just we kind of come from this

Place of frustration and we miss so many Opportunities to mark all the behaviors That could be your dog just chilling and Relaxing that could be your dog coming In from a walk outside and just sitting And looking up at you you're like oh my Gosh that's great Mark that so we always Say they're carrying your tree pouch on You or Set some containers around the house up Filled with some this is just kibble and And pickles is back there he'll get if He's doing something I want to see more Of I'm going to reinforce that they're Easily available so that you don't you Know you don't you don't have to run for Them and then miss the opportunity to Reward for that good behavior so I would Say that's something else as well just Reward for all the things in a day we Call it the hashtag 50 kibble challenge We challenge you to take 50 pieces of Kibble out of your meals so that you're Not over feeding and use it throughout The day to reinforce all the behaviors You want to see more of I was like did You see Joan because I have five Containers around my house I do two Let's see one two three I have I think Four or five but they're all in the Strategic places where I know that Sometimes things happen that I want to Kind of adjust like I have a container Upstairs and sometimes Lincoln will find

You know the fabric softener on the Floor of the laundry room or a random Sock in my closet and I'll ask him to Either leave it or drop it and then I Want to make sure that he gets a treat Because he did a good job and he did What I asked him to do and so I have a Treat jar Um upstairs kind of in this common area So you know he now knows where it is and He'll be like okay I'll drop this suck And we're gonna head right over there he Like takes you to it let's see like this Is what we do now right which is we That's our Arrangement I'm like please Drop that sock or even we actually just Prevent it from happening all together Please leave it alone as he's kind of Heading to it you can leave it he's like Okay and now we go to the tree jar which You know I'm happy to do it's like Pieces of kibble I'm not going to over Feed him and it really allows us to Understand each other and you know he's Not going to get to a point where he Completely avoids it all together it's Too interesting for him but he does get To a point where he's like okay I know You'd prefer me to leave this alone and I will I will do that Love it Yeah that that that in itself prevention We We call we call it the pmap method uh Prevention management enrichment and

Training like you need all all four of Those components to be able to start to See that change in the behavior that's That is definitely something we teach we Go over that a lot at hyper level yeah All right You also we talked about this too you Have to take care of yourself fill your Own emotional cup so you want to start To see those puppy Blues Melt Away work On you as well work on just getting out Getting you know uh maybe you have to Hire the dog walker to come in while you Go have lunch with a friend something That allows you to fill your own Emotional cup So plan for the family and friends Um and start with baby steps this isn't Everything that you're you're hearing us Say is not like a one and done and it's Also not like a you're going to do all These steps tomorrow and by Wednesday You're going to see you'll see progress But you're not going to see perfect Perfection you know that's subjective Anyway I mean but you'll see progress For sure So and and don't change everything all At once because then you're never gonna Really know what it was that was that One thing that helped and worked Right Yeah you got to be kind of a scientists Change one variable at a time and then

Reflect on it watch it and watch the Observations of what might have been Different and then uh try a different Variable if that doesn't seem to be Getting what you're looking for Hobbies learn from consistency and Routine and lots of reinforcement so It's you know when you hear us say There's going to be you know lots of Reinforcing yes it's sometimes you know When we when we train service dogs it's Hundreds and hundreds of repetitions so That we get them to a place of like Proficiency when they're in a variety of Different situations because you just Never know what's going to pop up right You want your dog prepared for Everything and dogs don't generalize so That means whatever you learned at home In a quiet You know secluded environment you take Them out in public that you will have to Build up to that environment you have to Practice in variables of that before you Get to what we call pre-training versus The Big Show So those are things we we help a lot With Allison do you want to talk about This graphic we share a lot with our Student or our viewers in the puppy Training with Michelle Lennon Facebook Group yeah this is kind of something we Were talking about earlier where it's Like understanding the natural

Development of your dog because it can Really help you with your expectations And you know people really do become Very frustrated with these behaviors Which are are quite normal given what The dog is experiencing but can be very Frustrating to us biting potty accidents Crying in the crate and a lot of people Will ask in that Facebook group when Does it stop well For one it it has to do with training And we have to just kind of address it But also there are some developmental Things happening that will benefit you With time you know potty accidents will Get better with training but also as the Bladder gets stronger you know the the Dog is very young and has very Undeveloped systems in their body same With biting you know they're just like Babies naturally want to suck and chew And Dogs naturally want to kind of bite on Things and nothing so this graphic Really can kind of tell you about when You'll see things start to change but This is assuming that you are also Providing the natural needs that they Have uh like need like their need for Enrichment and training and watching Their body language So this is part of expectations and Patience Yeah we got to set the expectations for

Sure All right guys Um so you might be kind of in a state Where you're like well okay that's good It all sounds really good it all sounds Like uh you know I've got some things to Work on you you still might need some Additional help so we definitely have a YouTube channel filled with over 150 Videos that can help you if you tune in If you're not following our Instagram Channel I definitely encourage you to do So because we share a lot of training Tips and recommendations and things to Do and not do so go over there after You're done here and uh and follow us Um of course we have our programs you Know if that's something that you want a More step-by-step approach you want to Know the games to play to work on skills You know we have the 30 data puppy Perfection we have our new crate Training mini course if that's something You're struggling with Um and then I think is I think now now is what I'm Supposed to tell you I remembered Caitlyn I remembered Um if you would go over to our Facebook Page under the post that Caitlyn shared There Um and comment just let us know one Thing that you learned from this Presentation we'll take anybody that um

Comments there and put your name in for For a drawing and we'll announce the Winner at the at the end of the day I Think we're gonna do Caitlyn Caitlin Will tell me in the comments So if if you need help with anything of Course just let us know you can also Find us or or if you're not sure what What direction you need to go in Obviously joining the Facebook group Puppy training with Michelle Lennon is a Great place to start Um if you have more questions about the Course and you're like how's it work What do we need help with you can email Us at support how to train a dream Dog.com and we can answer any questions There as well We are in all places we are in so many Different places and we have so many Different resources that can help enemy Go live like this we're just we're here We're right here for you so let us know How we can help you yeah let's I'm Speaking of questions you want to you Want to kind of go back through the Comments here yeah there was just a few People were kind of chatting about Different things Um let me just see if I can find a few Oh Lily was just wondering how many Hours he should not for if he's about 14 Weeks yeah so I mean the week window for A 14 week old puppies probably about an

Hour and a half to two hours somewhere In there so you can see I mean after After they're up for that long they're Going to need a nap for maybe about an Hour or two three hours depending on you Know what's going on the longer they Sleep obviously during the day that's Great Um but remember in in a 24-hour period They definitely need about for 14 week Old closer to maybe 6 16 hours yeah All right Um spin dance says buddy boy is Constantly chewing on things I wonder How old buddy boy is what do you guess Yeah uh so chewing well dogs have the Natural urge tutu it's even stronger During the teething phase which is up to About Um you know six months eight months Somewhere in there but there are some Dogs that just are more oral than others Labs are notorious for wanting to put Everything in their mouth and wanting to Just kind of chew on things carry things Around I would recommend that if you Have a chewer on your hands especially a Super tour we have a video on I think It's five recommendations for super Tours or dogs that just really love to Chew and all other things don't hold up These recommendations will help with That I'll have Caitlyn share that link In the comments below

That person Caitlyn is on Facebook by The way So we saw this one at the beginning and I'm wondering if BD has been able to get Some good info from the presentation Specifically about things like the Schedule and Um kind of having patience and setting Expectations also Um looking at naps things like that Because struggling with biting and Aggressive behavior and it'd be really Interesting to feed to hear what is that Behavior because maybe we think of it And in the human brain as aggressive but Maybe this is normal puppy behavior and We're misreading it kind of like that Canine communication we talked about Yeah yeah I mean so this would be you Know one of the first things we do with Our students is have them submit a Schedule to us of what's going on in the Day how long or the is the puppy up how Long are those naps so they physically Um we in our Pro level workbook we it's One of the pages in it page I think 58 We have them filled that out so we can Physically see what's going on on and Then from there we can start this like I Said before I said earlier in the Presentation uh majority of the time It's uh the puppy's up too long they're Getting over stimulated and then we see More of that behavior and when we start

To hear phrases like aggressive behavior It is very possible that this puppy is Just over stimulated and don't and this Is one thing for everybody don't take it Personally your puppy is not thinking Like stewing over there going I'm going To show them I'm gonna get them I'm Gonna gobble them up I'm gonna I'm gonna Draw blood today That is not what's happening but when They do get to a state of over Stimulation they become like I said if They're cranky they're tired they they Their behaviors are Amplified so we Wanna we wanna really look at that Schedule and see where we can Get in more naps make sure they're not Up too long and getting over stimulated Providing the outlets that the puppy Needs throughout the day To chase to dig to scavenge to explore To sniff all of those things and when we Start to see you do those or offer those We do start to see a shift in the Behavior and then we have people that Are like oh puppies biting but it's on The appropriate things or they're not Biting me anymore Yeah this is a lot like everybody can Kind of picture a a three-year-old at The end of a birthday party you know It's just full meltdown happening and I Think it's easier for us to understand Why that's happening because they're

Human and we understand them somewhat Better but when we see it in a puppy we Don't we don't quite understand what's Happening so that's a lot of times what We're seeing Um I wanted to let's see This one was saying um true is six Months old Sharky poo and she nips at People constantly We could so there's a couple things that Come to mind when I think of that Um part of it could be you know we're at The the remember puppy over stimulated We could also have a puppy that doesn't Want to be picked up or doesn't want you To invade their space so one of the Things we teach is be an inviter not an Invader and it's very common with our Younger puppy or younger and smaller Puppies especially like a Shorkie poo Right they're so cute they're so little They get a lot of uh Behavior picky Being picked up right A lot of people Want to pick them up and snuggle them We could have some body handling Um concerns there where the puppy is not Comfortable with being handled so we Might need to work on some counter Conditioning at this point we might need To again tell people back off let puppy Come to check you out If they're nipping to people yeah this To me usually is a invasion of space Most often

And it could be something that's been Established in the past and so now it's Just happening as a habit because of Something that happened or several Things so it's this is a hard one to Know because there's a lot more Information we would need in order to Kind of understand like when is it Happening and what time of day and what Does the behavior look like and all of That One of the um one of the Instagram reels That we did the other day I think it was Last week was how to pick a puppy up and You know there was some if you picking The puppy up under their arms frequently It's putting a lot of pressure up here Pinching it does create a negative Association so then you have a hand Coming at them and then it's like no Don't get away from me they might be Just saying no get away from me no thank You so we always we always more or less I want you to say thank you for that Information puppy I appreciate that Instead of no you're not supposed to do That we never correct the growl we never Correct the bite Um that doesn't teach the puppy what we Want them to do differently in addition To that uh it doesn't it it you lose Trust when you kind of get into that Corrective mode we have to heed the Warnings so there's something going on

That's telling the puppy that they Should nib to make somebody stop doing Something and or Possibly like Allison said it's been Reinforced accidentally you know the Hand coming at them and touching them And riling them up or something oh Something that just came to mind too Um If you've ever played and this goes for All of you guys if you've ever played The I'm Gonna Get You game where you go I'm go get you I'll go get you and you Come at them stop it immediately no more I'm Gonna Get You game uh all this does Is create a negative association with a Hand coming at them and it does Encourage them to nip and bite so no More of that we see I don't know what it Is about the husbands we see a lot with The husbands the the you know a student Will tell me oh my husband keeps saying That I'm Gonna Get You game and I'm like Oh You tell him I said no I can't do that too uh it looks like uh Her name is Judy Judy says she's gonna Join the class Judy we would love to Help you I think you're gonna really Love the support that we offer and um Being able to kind of talk back and Forth on these Zoom calls and in the Private Facebook group and and being Able to answer some of these questions

Like what is the schedule and what is Happening right before this behavior and What else is the puppy doing in their Lives that they enjoy or that they don't Enjoy Um we have so many really interesting Kind of Concepts that we talk about that Add to the whole picture of raising a Puppy so Judy we can't wait to see you And uh we look forward to helping you With your Shorkie poo hey did you see Tamika Tamika just had a oh I'm sorry oh That's okay I'm struggling with potty Training oh I didn't see that one yeah Um Tamika the very first place I want You to go is inside the new puppy Starter kit that'll get you started Working on some fundamentals of potty Training that would be a helpful first Place there's the resource packet in There as well it's all free all for you Guys so Um you can find that on our website or I'm pretty sure Caitlyn shared the link To that as well in the comments below I think we have time for just this one Last question okay my dog is about five Months old and needs some social skills She's very abrupt with children and Other dogs how can that be managed That's a great question okay uh let's See here five months old social skills Abrupt with children I I need to know a Little bit more about what does abrupt

With children mean that sounds like Um and how old are the children that You're trying to work on socializing Your puppy to so it's it's very common To see our puppies especially this age Become a little bit more stressed when We have very active kids in the home Kids that like to run through kids that Are potentially you know they're playing Very loudly which is natural right Totally normal for kids to do Um it could be a little scary and Overwhelming for the puppy though so I I Feel like there this could go a variety Of different ways Um part of it would be definitely work On some confidence building games for Your puppy in addition to we always say Anytime there's kids in the house you're Doing double training because you're Working on teaching the puppy what you Want them to do in the presence of the Kids but you're also teaching the kids What you want them to do in the presence Of the puppy and so that's where I was Saying be sure that you're working on Teaching the kids to be inviters not Invaders so this might just mean having Your kids sit on a stool up off the Floor and uh just hanging out there just Babysitting and reading a book letting The puppy come and check them out as Opposed to the kids coming over and Invading the puppy space you might want

To work yourself on the bump it game and Then potentially teach the kids how to Play a bumper game so I I feel like Again I don't want to get too deep into This because I don't know what your Dog's Comfort level is and I certainly Would never want to put them in a Situation where they're going to be even More comfortable in the presence of These kids so This is something that we could work Through in much more detail for sure Yeah that would be that would be a Really interesting one also yeah All right so I hope that was I hope Today's presentation gave you a little Hope a little kind of like a little like A ray of sunshine a little uh uh pot of Gold at the end of the rainbow whatever The saying is just giving you some Encouragement that puppy Blues are real You're it's not gonna last forever and Just with a little training a Fine-tuning shifting of the uh Activities or schedules you can see a Pretty big difference and then you won't Feel so frustrated and overwhelmed Anymore so as Ellison said earlier we'd Like to help you with that if that's Something that you you know you you Would like to take things to the next Level and work with us we'd be happy to Work with you and help you with that All right top of the Hour end of the

Presentation thank you so much for Joining us today we will not be live Next week because it will be the day After Christmas so we hope you all have A happy holiday a wonderful Christmas And we'll be in the Facebook group puppy Training with Michelle Lennon though so If you have any questions there hop in Join the group we can point you in the Right direction all right guys puppies Work 24 7.
